Science homework help. SCIENCE OF THE SCREEN:

Choose one of the following movies to watch and review (none of these are currently on Netflix but you can check them out from the SPC library or you can typically rent them from amazon.com for a few dollars and stream them on your computer).
- The Core (2003) – Starring Hilary Swank and Aaron Eckhart
- Dante’s Peak (1997) – Starring Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton
- Volcano (1997) – Starring Tommy Lee Jones and Anne Heche
- The Day after Tomorrow (2004) – Starring Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal
- Deep Impact (1998) – Starring Robert Duvall and Tea Leoni

- Twister (1996) – Starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton
Review Requirements:
Movie reviews that do not meet the following criteria with have LARGE point deductions (i.e. if you want all those points, you are going to have to actually work for them!).
Length: 1.5 pages (minimum) to 3 pages (maximum)
Font: Size 12 font that is easy to read (Times New Roman, Helvetica, etc)
Format: The top of the first page should have your name, class & section, date, and assignment title typed in the upper left-hand corner, SINGLE SPACED.
The rest of the paper should be DOUBLE-SPACED.
Margins: No larger than 1.5 inches
Spelling and grammar: In the age of spell check, there is no excuse for these types of errors
Citations: All information and quotes MUST be cited in line with the text, and references must be listed in a Works Cited section at the end of the paper. In this review, you will have a lot more of your own ideas, but you should not make claims unless you can back them up. You will most likely get information from your textbook or from the web and I want to see citations!
You are welcome to comment on the acting skills and cinematography, but I will be looking for thoughtful answers to the following questions:
- What was this film about? What was the premise of the story?
- Are any of the characters playing scientists? How are these characters portrayed? Geeky, cool? Do you think this was accurate or exaggerated? Why would they portray them the way they did?
- Having been through a Natural Science class, what parts of the movie were scientifically accurate? i.e. what happened that was actually possible and correctly portrayed? (use citations here)
- What parts of the movie were scientifically inaccurate? What would have been a correct representation? (use citations here)
- Were there parts of the movie that may have been possible, but were likely exaggerated for entertainment purposes? (use citations here)
- Reflect on the movie as a whole. Would it have been as interesting or entertaining if it would have all been scientifically accurate?
